Easy multiple choice boiling water question?
There are three types of systems: open systems that let heat and mass in and out easily, closed systems that let heat in and out but not mass, and isolated systems that let no heat and no mass in or out. Since this is a closed system it is true that the heat will eventually be distributed so the water in the container is no longer boiling however this process takes time. The water will not immediately cool down. It would still be boiling when you put the container in the cold water. It's similar to if you took a container of ice cream out of the freezer, it doesn't automatically melt it takes time.
