My pony skinned her hock, and the vet gave ointmint to apply. But whenever I touch sore area, she kicks?

Shes not normally a kicking horse, but as soon as I touch to spot she kicks out. Not directly at me, just... Out. How can I get her to allow me to put the ointmint on?
