Getting a horse to respect me on the ground?

Well if it was me, I'd give him a firm little TAP on the snout! You say he turns his head.. well if he tries to bite at you, put your arm out quick and pop him one on the nose. I can guarantee you that will surprise him. He'll realize that he's not going to get away with his stupid little games when you're around. And if the horse is acting up like that, why does the camp director even ALLOW him around little kids???? WOW. Another thing you could try, if you're allowed to do this with the horse.. is lunging him for respect... look up 'Clinton Anderson: Lunging for Respect.' This program is designed to help you gain respect of a horse on the ground and in the saddle by moving his feet, and getting the thinking side of his brain operating. He has to concentrate on YOUR cues instead of just going in the traditional way of lunging: sending the horse around in aimless circles.
